Barius Tulari » Descriptions
Personality and backstory
Tula culture places a great deal of significance on one's name, class, and station. Prefixes denoting one's class or station are attached to the given name--Barius was born Rius, and "Ba" denotes his current position.
Literally translated from the Tula's language, his given name (Rius) means something like "Fortunate one." His full name with titles (Barius Tulari) would mean something like "Ba soldier, fortunate one, member of the Tula."
He suffers from hypersexuality (aka sexual compulsive disorder, satyriasis.) In his past, it was quite crippling, preventing him from doing almost anything as he was so distracted by his own lust. He gradually sunk into more and more depraved and downright criminal sexual offenses that eventually brought shame on his entire house and brought him to exile. He worked hard to control it when he became a Ba soldier, and his current personality is one of suppression and single-minded determination. He has gone ages without being intimate and is now deathly afraid of it, as he has worked hard enough to completely seal the door to his excessive lust that he fears that even the tiniest of concessions could lead to a full-fledged reversion.
His Ba training taught him the value of secrecy, and the power of surprising opponents who underestimated him, and of the weakness of revealing his secrets. At the peak of his training, he won a climactic duel against his fellow students by allowing them to believe that he hadn't yet conquered his hypersexuality. He found a place where he was alone, and pretended to lose himself in fantasies and self-stimulation. They attempted to ambush him there, counting on him being fatally distracted. Instead, they were surprised when a clear-minded Rius instantly dropped the ruse and fought them off, and their own shock and underestimation proved to be the fatal distraction that saw Rius, now Barius, the victor.
Between the shame of how he was before his training, the lessons learned during the training, and the fear of his previous state ever returning, Barius is now extremely carefully guarded and reserved, even downright ruthlessly paranoid. He freely lies, even to his friends, just on the off chance that -anything- they actually learn about him, down to what he had for dinner the previous evening, could potentially be used against him. He isn't overtly secretive or nervous; he is well adept at acting casual and freely and naturally giving information in the course of a conversation. However, it usually turns out later that nothing he said in the conversation was actually true. On the battlefield, surprise is his greatest weapon, and he fears anyone who knows too much about him.
It is tiring to always keep several layers of secrecy around him at all times with everyone he knows, though. He wants to find someone he can open up to and let his guard down around, but he's deathly afraid of betrayal, and of his hypersexuality returning if he ever allows himself to be intimate again. The idea of finding someone to love is simultaneously his greatest desire and his greatest fear. What if he regresses? What if he's betrayed after revealing his secrets? On the other hand, what if he has to go on carrying the burden of secrecy and caution forever...?

Physical description
Barius is a Tula, a lizardman-like species from a story I'm working on. He is large and fairly imposing. He stands at well above average height, and while he isn't buff to the point of ridiculousness, he is fairly muscular. He is incredibly fast and agile despite his build, and often surprises enemies who were expecting a slow powerhouse.
He is fully plantigrade, human-shaped hands and feet bearing the standard five fingers and toes each, though with small claws instead of smooth nails. He has a sort of spined fin that runs from the center of his forehead down to the base of his neck, ending somewhere between the shoulders. He is otherwise lacking in natural accents or accessories. He has the same green scales all throughout his body, completely lacking in separate plates or anything else. His tail is massive, yet surprisingly dexterous, much like Barius himself.
His clothing varies widely. He can and will freely enter a mission in anything from full heavy armor to sensible wear to going completely naked--whatever he thinks will confer a tactical advantage. His "default" costume consists of tight and form-fitting black short pants and a shirt that end just before his elbows and knees. Over those, he has gray metal shoulder pads that stay attached via a tie that runs across the chest and back and beneath the opposite arm, thus making an "X" shape when both are worn. Finally, he has wrist and ankle bracers made from the same gray metal, and a simple cloth belt. He lacks shoes, gloves, or covering for his tail, preferring to go barefoot and leave his extremities exposed.
His weapon of choice is a simple quarterstaff. He complements that with kicks, claw swipes, and the occasional devastating lash from his powerful tail.
